〜 Learning Through Conversation and Writing 〜

Conversation & Writing Practice

“Can you really become fluent just by practicing conversation?”

If you’ve ever wondered that, you’re right.

Conversation practice alone is not enough to improve your Japanese efficiently.

That’s why, at GogakuLABO, we combine conversation practice with writing practice.

  • Mon. 30-minute conversation on a topic you choose
  • Tue. Writing about Monday's conversation
  • Wed. 30-minute conversation about your writing
  • Thu. Revise your writing
  • Fri. 30-minute conversation & weekly feedback

By repeatedly turning your conversations into writing, you’ll strengthen your Japanese more effectively.

Reviewing your past writing also helps you see your progress, helping you stay motivated throughout your learning journey.

Learn at Your Own Pace

Wouldn’t it be better to learn grammar and vocabulary at your own pace rather than spending valuable conversation time listening to explanations?

Your 30-minute conversation sessions should be spent thinking, expressing yourself, and communicating in Japanese—not listening to grammar lectures.

That’s why GogakuLABO provides its own learning materials for grammar and kanji.
You can study whenever it fits your schedule and prepare for your conversations at your own pace.

Grammar: Study grammar with Gakushu! Nihongo.
Learn practical grammar along with natural expressions and essential vocabulary.

Kanji: Study kanji with Kanstagram.
Learn not only how to read and write kanji, but also their origins, making them easier to remember.

Connect with Fellow Learners

Have you ever wondered…
“Why am I studying Japanese if I rarely get to use it?”

To become fluent, you need opportunities to communicate with other people in Japanese—not just study on your own.

That’s why GogakuLABO includes a Co-Learning Space, where members can connect and use Japanese anytime, 24 hours a day.

Meet people from around the world, share your experiences, ask questions, or simply enjoy casual conversations in Japanese.

Make Japanese a part of your everyday life.

〜 Why You’ll Stay Motivated with GogakuLABO 〜

Many people believe that success in language learning depends on having strong willpower.
In reality, people often stop learning not because they lack motivation, but because the learning system itself doesn’t help them build lasting habits.
An effective learning program should naturally encourage consistent learning.
At GogakuLABO, you’ll learn with flexible self-learning materials, join three 30-minute conversations each week, and reinforce your learning through writing.
Together, these activities help make Japanese a natural part of your weekly routine.

Many learners believe that learning Japanese means simply following a textbook and listening to a teacher.
However, real language learning doesn’t happen by memorizing expressions—it happens by expressing your own thoughts.
What matters most is not being given content, but having opportunities to communicate actively.
At GogakuLABO, you choose what you want to talk about, then deepen your ideas through writing.
Combined with self-study using Gakushu! Nihongo, you’ll always stay actively involved in your own learning.

Many people believe that simply attending conversation lessons will gradually improve their Japanese.
But conversations alone are easy to forget.
Real progress comes from recording your learning, reviewing it, and recognizing how much you’ve improved.
At GogakuLABO, your conversations and writing are saved as your personal learning portfolio.
Looking back on your own progress helps you stay motivated and continue learning with confidence.

Why I Created Gogaku LABO ?

I’ve always loved learning foreign languages. But one question stayed with me for years:

“Why don’t we improve as much as we expect when learning a language?”

For more than 20 years, I’ve taught Japanese in Japanese language schools in Japan and universities overseas. At the same time, I continued learning foreign languages myself while living abroad.

Through those years of teaching Japanese, I developed my own understanding of how languages are learned. And I applied that understanding to my own language learning. Gradually, one conviction became clear to me.

Learners don’t improve their language skills just because a teacher explains more.

GogakuLABO was born from that conviction. I believe learners improve their language skills when they have a learning environment that encourages them to think for themselves, express themselves in their own words, and continue learning consistently. Rather than simply teaching Japanese, I wanted to create an environment where learners can continue learning independently.

I believe learning should be enjoyable. Discovering something new should never feel like a burden.

My goal is simple:
to help you enjoy learning Japanese and become confident expressing yourself.
Gogaku LABO isn’t a place where I teach Japanese.
It’s a place where you learn Japanese.
